A few suggestions from the faithful...
We hope these tips will help you during your visit to N'awlins and this little party we call Mardi Gras.
Remember: The most important thing you can bring to Mardi Gras is your common sense. So don't forget to Pack It! This page may at times sound somewhat down on Mardi Gras. This is not our intent nor is it the case. Many of us have lived in New Orleans all our lives and participated Mardi Gras, as a visitor, spectator and as a members of the Krewe of Pegasus. Having grown up around Mardi Gras we can say without a doubt that it is an experience you will never forget should you choose to join us. In fact you may find yourself coming back again and again. Therefore, we have created this page to try and make your stay as enjoyable as we know it can be. Mardi Gras is truly the greatest "free" show on earth.

The golden rule of Mardi Gras - Be courteous and listen to the Police. During Mardi Gras the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) work a lot of overtime to keep you safe and ensure that you have a good time. They are responsible for everything from crowd control and dealing with less than sober people to helping you find little Bobby who got lost during the parade. Remember they will give you the benefit of the doubt unless you get pushy or obnoxious. It is then, that due to their tremendous workload, they must resort to giving you a place to cool down so they can get back to the 999,999 other people trying to have fun around you. So just listen and cooperate and you will have no problems during your stay. On another note, if you or someone around you is in need of help stop a Policeman. They are extremely capable of dealing with any situation that may arise.

Parking - Do not park illegally. The tow trucks are out and it will take around $200.00 and a lot of aspirin before you will get your vehicle back. So don't be afraid to pay for parking. Parking lots range from $10 - $25. Depending on what lot you pull into. Side note: if you choose a lot that is in a neighborhood make sure that the person who is responsible for the property is the one you are paying to park and not someone who decided to make a quick buck.

Be careful. Alcohol - Its okay to drink (responsibly) in the streets, not in your car. But remember no glass or bottles and get a "Go Cup." Every bar has them at the door before you leave. Do not get overly intoxocated! Despite what you see on TV you can go to jail for public intoxication. If you get overly intoxicated or try to surf on top of the beer truck as it makes deliveries down Bourbon Street, it happens. You will get a first hand look at Central Lockup and how efficiently and quickly you can get there so the Police can resume their patrols. Remember you are not as amusing as you may think.

Nudity - Yes, it happens. In fact it seems that in the last few years it is happening more and more. It is even happing off season - for those who get away with it. Public exposure is against the law. However, in the French Quarter and along the parade routes, well you have seen the pictures and heard the stories, lets just say that people will do a lot for beads. But remember this is in the Quarter (a less than children oriented area during Mardi Gras) or along the parade routes (where happens pretty quick). After all you still have to catch the beads your effort has generated. Oh yea, don't forget it seems that everyone has a digital camera now. Do you really want to see yourself on the Internet?

The French Quarter. We DO NOT recommend bringing young children to the French Quarter. In fact its not a good idea to turn anyone under 18 loose in the Quarter. It is very easy to get separated while in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras.

The Balcony's on Bourbon St. - A great place to be during Mardi Gras but if you haven't made a reservation it may be to late. Remember the balcony's are in the Quarter therefore, not a place for young children. Oh yea, don't forget to bring a lot of LONG - 48" or longer beads with you - you will see why.

Can't move? - When walking in the Quarter the streets get very congested so "Hit the Walls." - watch the Natives.  Also, if the street is to crowded to walk. Don't, the Police will get the crowd moving soon enough.

Go in a group - The best way to enjoy Mardi Gras is with a group anyway so if you are going to hit the Quarter its good to take a friend or three. Enjoy yourself and try to stay together.

Stay together! - If you get separated that's it, you might as well start enjoying yourself alone. You are more likely to accidentally find you group than if you go looking for them. It is a good idea to have a meeting point at the top or bottom of the hour or at the end of the day - the only problem is getting there. Best idea - Cell Phones and Pagers. But beware of pick pockets not everyone is as respectable as you are.

Betting- Don't take bets like "I bet I can tell you where you got your shoes." Go find a Casino or Video Poker machine. You have much better odds of winning.

At the Parade "Throw Me Something Mister". Don't be afraid to yell and try and get the riders attention. The more you enjoy catching throws the more they enjoy their ride. but remember stand back from the float - with the noise of the tractor, the other riders and the crowd its hard to hear up there. If you stand in the back, yell and try to make eye contact with the riders. Never Throw Things at The Floats or Riders to Get Their Attention! - This will only cause the riders to ignore you or the Police to ask you to move along or worse...
