Our Royal Court |
|
The Court Members |
Our court is made up of the King and Queen, their pages, the princesses or ladies
in waiting to her majesty the Queen and our Maids with Officer Escorts. We also
present our Past Court from the year before and every 10 years we return our Past
Queens as well. With all this Royalty it's a wonder how we fill a Court each year.
Well, husbands, families or friends often "put up" a young lady as Queen, Page or
Maid. In fact we have Queens booked years in advance and it is not uncommon for
a young lady to serve as Page, Princess, Maid and then Queen. As for the King well,
who wouldn't want to be surrounded by such beauty.
The Royal Court is presented at "PegaBash" for the first time then begins their
reign at "Celebration" and is presented for all the world to see in our Parade which
is held two Saturdays or 10 days before Mardi Gras and follows our traditional downtown
route. |

His Regal Majesty King Pegasus... |
|
Each year our King is chosen by the Queen Designate from a random drawing. The drawing
takes place at the "PegaBash" Party held each Fall. The requirements for eligibility
are simply membership in good standing for more than 1 year and the desire to have
the time of your life! After all not many men can say they have had the streets
of New Orleans closed for them, now can they! After meeting his new Court the King
toasts his guests for the first time. Then, after a few parties his reign officially
begins upon his Knighting at "Celebration." Keep in mind that our King not only
reigns over the lovely ladies of his Court and his Queen but over the Krewe members
themselves. In fact it is not uncommon for Krewe members to go to extra lengths
to show the proper homage to their King... At the completion of his reign as King
Pegasus he enters our Kings Club for life. Remember his reign only lasts one year
but the memories will last a lifetime. |

Her Regal Majesty Queen Pegasus... |
Many outsides try to compare being a Queen of a Mardi Gras Krewe as the same a debutant
ball. Well we are here to tell you it just does not compare. Our Queen is notified
of her upcoming reign at "Celebration" the year before her reign is to begin. The
Captain and his lovely wife walk over to her during the dancing portion of "Celebration"
and give her a dozen red roses to congratulate her. In most cases this is a surprise
because she did not know she was put up for Queen. Then comes all the excitement,
the notification of friends and in some cases the friends becoming her maids. Over
the next few months she will meet with the costume designer to select her colors
and the fabrics for her costume. Once her court is selected they will all meet for
tea and to review the designs and see the sketches of their costumes. She will also
attend the yearly Queens dinner at which all of our Past Queens remember how much
fun they had and give our Queen Designate pointers. In the Fall is "PegaBash" where
she will pick her King and take her first walk as Queen. Between PegaBash and "Celebration"
the King and Queen throw a cocktail party for the reigning King and Queen and their
Court, the Captain, the Officers and special guests. Finally comes "Celebration,"
and her Knighting. After "Celebration" and for the next year she will reign as Queen
Pegasus. She will ride in the Parade and attend other Krewe's Balls and the many
Pegasus parties throughout her reign as Queen.
Similar to the King she becomes a member of the Queens Club for life. As for next
year, she returns with her Court. They are presented at "Celebration" in white dresses
and view the parade from the reviewing stands on St. Charles Ave. |
|
Our Lovely Maids, Princesses and Pages... |
|
Our Maids, Princesses and Pages range in age from 3 to 30 and are generally known
by Our Queen or one another. Often families will put up daughters in combination
so they can enjoy the fun together. They participate in all the parties with the
King, Queen and the Krewe. They are members of the Court and are presented along
with our Queen and King at PegaBash and "Celebration." They ride in the Parade on
special floats with escorts in tuxedos to help them with their throws. Due to their
young ages the pages ride with their Majesties. As for the costumes, the Princesses
and Pages wear specially designed ball dresses and the Maids wear full costumes
with collars and headpieces. The Maids will also return at "Celebration" the year
following their reign with the Queen. In fact it is not uncommon for many of these
young ladies to serve in all capacities to include Krewe member during their membership
in Pegasus. |
